Salary: £30,942 - £44,045 per annum

The Role


Newcastle University Business School is seeking a Student Recruitment Manager.  You will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Business School student recruitment and conversion strategies, with the overall aim of achieving recruitment targets for high calibre UK, EU and international undergraduate and postgraduate students.  You will lead the development, implementation, co-ordination and evaluation of student recruitment and conversion strategies to achieve recruitment targets for high-calibre UK, EU and international undergraduate and postgraduate students.  You will require an in-depth understanding of regional, national and international admissions and student recruitment, experience of market research and competitor analysis, and excellent project management and communication skills. You will also be responsible for the line management of the Student Recruitment team.  You will be a graduate or equivalent with relevant experience in a similar role.

 Key Accountabilities


  • Develop and oversee implementation of student recruitment strategies to achieve School student recruitment targets
  • Provide market insight for target audiences in order to inform portfolio development, subject messaging and student recruitment marketing plans/campaigns
  • Acting as a key source of information to the School and University, providing high-quality market intelligence and identifying opportunities to support the School’s student recruitment planning and objectives
  • Support the student recruitment marketing of Business School subjects and programmes by ensuring coherent and consistent messaging across student recruitment events and activities
  • Maximise Customer Relationship Management by identifying and improving key touch points for prospective students
  • Responsibility for Business School student recruitment events and presence at University student recruitment events and activities
  • Ensure the coordination and implementation of University admissions strategies at School level, working with relevant Central and School Professional Service and academic staff
  • Line management of the Student Recruitment team.  Ensuring effective delivery, evaluation and monitoring, operational planning and appropriate communication
  • Manage the Business School budget for student recruitment, reporting to the Head of Engagement, Recruitment and Marketing
  • Act as the key point of contact for Business School student recruitment, for internal and external stakeholders
  • Other duties, as defined by line manager, which support the successful achievement of Business School vision, strategy and operations


 The Person (Essential)


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of developing and delivering creative and innovative student recruitment strategies and plans and to measure their success against targets or KPIs
  • Awareness of current issues affecting Higher Education, in particular an understanding of regional, national and international admissions and student recruitment
  • Experience of market research and competitor analysis with the ability to undertake research and collect, manage and interpret data
  • Proven ability to use initiative, think strategically and to adopt a creative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent project management skills, including time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines
  • Experience of using digital/web marketing tools and channels
  • Experience and understanding of customer relationship management
  • Experience of budget management
  • Willingness and availability to work unsocial hours when required (evenings and weekends); receive Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service
  • Excellent copywriting, editing and proof-reading skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills
  • Experience of student recruitment in a Higher Education setting


  • Line management experience with ability to lead and develop staff
  • Understanding of marketing campaign planning and delivery including different channels, measuring impact and making recommendations for future campaigns
  • Ability to write for multimedia print and digital marketing, ensuring the style is appropriate to the medium, message and audience
  • Experience of successful event management and coordination
  • Awareness and understanding of UK Widening Participation issues


Attributes and Behaviour

  • Willing to travel in the UK and internationally, sometimes requiring overnight stays



  • Degree or equivalent level qualification plus experience in a similar role or significant vocational experience, demonstrating development through progressively more demanding, relevant roles
