Salary: Salary £19,623 per annum, progressing to £24,174

The role

 

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Stores Officer. Whilst supporting the Hospitality and Commercial Services in the crucial role ensuring stocks are available to maintain delivery of a world class catering service. Guiding and motivating your team to be the best they can possibly be, the Stores Officer will need to have presence and personality to influence the day-to-day business and you'll need to maximise the performance. Leading by example and setting high standards, Stores Office are key front-line members of the catering team, responsible for supporting the provision excellent customer service, ideally within catering or hospitality experience. You’ll be able to motivate individuals to ensure positive and professional standards are consistently met.

 

The working pattern is Monday to Friday 7am – 3pm along with opportunities for overtime.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • To maintain stock levels through ordering all goods as required e.g. food, drink, consumables etc. to ensure provision of a high quality catering service to meet the needs of University Customers. 
  • To receive all incoming goods ensuring they are of the correct type, quality and quantity and delivered in accordance with University and Service Policies. To take remedial action where this is not the case e.g. notify suppliers and line manager of short deliveries, refuse delivery where product does not meet standards. 
  • Undertake all aspects of stock control e.g. ensuring goods are promptly stored in the correct designated location, manner and at the correct temperature and stock rotation and stock takes are carried out at the end of each month to maintain quality, minimise wastage and safeguard from theft.
  • Supervise the daily activities of the General Assistants including the assignment of tasks liaising with colleagues to ensure provision of assistance when required (if applicable to work location.)
  • Prepare and issue all goods for the day’s production and service maintaining appropriate records, as required using predetermined checklists. Organise delivery or, if necessary, deliver food and non-food stores as requisitioned on a daily basis.
  • Accurately record all goods received and their subsequent transfer to the various outlets onto the computerised stock control system on a daily basis.
  • To assist in the SAP/P2P purchasing process as directed.
  • Ensure that the work environment and work practices comply with operating procedures, food hygiene and health and safety legislation. Undertake health and safety audits as required e.g. hazard monitoring, accident reporting etc. to ensure compliance with University, local safety policies, COSHH and legislation.
  • Report any irregularities or concerns with stored items immediately to line manager e.g. decaying food, evidence of pests in accordance with food hygiene legislation and service policies and procedures.
  • Support the Service’s commitment to training and development by participating fully in training courses designed to improve personal skill levels and knowledge.
  • Support of HCS strategic objectives of sustainability, diversity, and food innovation.


The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Must be able to work accurately and pay attention to detail
  • High level of IT literacy in Microsoft Office packages
  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation in relation to Food Hygiene, HACCP and Health and Safety.
  • Planning, organisational and numerical skills
  • Good oral/written communication skills
  • Experience of specialist software (Saffron, Kinetics, EPOS Systems).
  • Proven planning and organising abilities.
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Desirable)
  • COSHH and Manual Handling Training

Qualifications

Essential

  • Food Safety for Caterers Level 2 Certificate.

Desirable

  • NVQ2 Warehousing and Distribution
  • Food Safety for Caterers Level 3 Certificate
