The Role 

  

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Solutions Architect to expand our established Architecture Team within the IT Service. The team has a maturing enterprise architecture capability and is looking to augment this with solution architecture to ensure projects and changes meet business needs while adhering to architectural principles, standards, and the target architecture. 

 

The University has a strong commitment to investment in digital technology to improve the student and staff experience. The Architecture Team is part of the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). Working alongside the Project Management Office, which comprises Project Management and Business Analysis practices, the team helps design and deliver University-wide IT solutions. These solutions are prioritized by the Technology Portfolio Board. 

 

You will define solution architectures through close collaboration with colleagues in the OCTO, Technical Operations and Service Delivery sections, working alongside subject-matter experts, suppliers, business partners, and key stakeholders. You will champion cutting-edge solution architecture practices, drive the development and adoption of standards through proven methodologies to elevate project and change outcomes. 

 

This role is permanent, based at the Newcastle-upon-Tyne campus, and offers a variety of attractive benefits including hybrid working. 

 

About you:  

  

We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following essential qualities:  

  • Demonstrable, breadth of experience in a Solutions Architecture capacity 
  • Experience with diverse, complex application and infrastructure technology stacks 
  • Evidence of practical application of industry-recognised architecture frameworks such as TOGAF 
  • Ability to develop architecture models to depict current and future states of the IT architecture 
  • Broad knowledge of IT industry standards and best practice 
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills
