The Role 

 

Are you passionate about enhancing the student experience and driving positive change?  The Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering is seeking a dynamic Senior Student Experience Manager to play a pivotal role in leading initiatives to amplify the student voice, foster effective communication and strengthen student engagement across our community.   This is an exciting new role for the Faculty and a fantastic opportunity for someone to quickly make a real difference to the experience of our students.

Key Accountabilities

  • To work in partnership with the Deans of Education, the Dean of Global and Education Development and the Associate Deans for Education in the delivery of the University and Faculty Education for Life strategic priorities, with a particular focus on student engagement, communication and community development including our overseas campuses and in doing so to undertake benchmarking against relevant key competitors.
  • To manage and deliver specific projects identified by the Deans using agile methodologies, working with colleagues to ensure that project outcomes are delivered and benefits realised.
  • To work alongside, advise, train and influence professional services colleagues working in education teams within academic units across the Faculty, focusing on projects that deliver cultural and practical change around communications with students at a school, programme and module level.  
  • To develop and lead supportive networks of good practice and innovation around student engagement amongst all colleagues across the Faculty and University.
  • To be the lead for student voice in the Faculty working closely with School Representatives, Student Life, NUSU and School colleagues to create and embed initiatives to strengthen the student voice through various methods and ensure students feedback is responded to in a timely, clear and consistent way across the Faculty.
  • To work in partnership with the Faculty Education Manager, ensuring that teams deliver a seamless service to the Deans, Associate Deans and wider academic community on projects which improve the experience of our students.
  • To work in partnership with colleagues in Student and Academic services in the University, building strong relationships and acting as the key Faculty point of contact to deliver continual improvements in the experience and the digital student journey.
  • To lead in partnership building with other colleagues in the Faculty Office, Schools and central services that hold student communication briefs on strategies and tools for communicating with current students in appropriately tailored ways.
  • To attend and participate in relevent Faculty and University committees and working groups, including Faculty Education Committee, Faculty PGR Committee, Student Experience and Wellbeing Sub-committee, acting as the Faculty representative where appropriate
  • To deputise for the Deputy Director of Faculty Operations as required, undertaking any additional duties as commensurate with the grade of the post.

 

The Person (Essential)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Well developed knowledge and awareness of current issues in Higher Education and the student experience
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting and/or working directly with undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Demonstrable experience of working across teams to deliver successful outcomes
  • Excellent written commuincation skills and experience of communicating across multiple platforms and media
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, influencing and relationship building skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders Experience of embedding EDI considerations into student engagement, communication and support initiatives, ensuring approaches are inclusive and responsive to the differing needs of a diverse student body
  • Experience of planning events and delivering projects individually and as part of a team whilst managing conflicting priorities and working to appropriate deadlines. Ability to manage and prioritise a complex workload and to solve problems and use own initiative appropriately
  • Experience of delivering long term cultural change (desirable)

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification plus experience in a similar role or significant vocational experience demonstrating development through progressively more demanding, relevant roles
  • Project management qualification (desirable)
