Salary: £22,254 - £23,487 (wth progression to £25,627) per annum, pro rata

The Role 


To contribute to the assessment and administration of a number of scholarship and funding schemes coordinated by the Student Financial Support Team.  You will be required to respond to student queries, process applications for financial support and handle scholarship offers providing support across the team.  

 

You must be proactive, able to work in a fast-paced environment and comfortable managing a diverse workload.  You must possess excellent communication and organisational skills. 

 

The Student Health & Wellbeing Service provides information, advice and guidance on a wide range of support issues.  The Student Health & Wellbeing Service has been designed to enable students to maximise their potential whilst at University. The service is free, confidential and available to all students. You will work within the Student Financial Support Team under the direction of the Deputy Manager.

This is a permanent part time post, 50% FTE, 18.5 hours per week.

Key Accountabilities 

 

• To undertake assessments, processing and payments for a number of existing scholarship schemes and to undertake similar work for new and emerging schemes as required

• To respond to enquiries received by telephone, email or in person about a range of funding schemes and applications.  To resolve queries from students, applicants and parents about eligibility for, or payment of scholarships and other discretionary financial support funds

• To compose and distribute student award and outcome letters and deal with any subsequent correspondence

• To create and maintain accurate records of application outcomes and scholarship recipients as well as contributing to the collation and maintenance of award adverts and guidelines

• To undertake other duties including, but not limited to preparing data for internal and external reports and funding returns

• To work with team members, colleagues from across the University and external organisations to advertise and administer awards

• To contribute to the assessment of applications for discretionary emergency funding

• To contribute to the development and review of processes and procedures for the continuous improvement or adaptation of systems and resolution of problems associated with any of these processes

• To contribute to the organisation and delivery of a number of Student Financial Support Team led events as well as other University events such as Open Days

• To undertake other duties as deemed appropriate by the Manager, Deputy Manager or the Director of Service

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience  

 

• Previous experience of working in a customer focused role, preferably within a financial setting or student facing environment

• Demonstrate a high level of numeracy, literacy, and accuracy with good written and oral communication skills

• Excellent IT skills with experience of using spreadsheets, databases and electronic systems within a financial field

• Evidence of working as part of a team and autonomously with the ability to prioritise own workload

• Demonstrate the use of initiative to find creative solutions and to work effectively under pressure

• Excellent organisational skills and able to manage competing demands working to tight timescales

• Working with financial awards in a university or similar environment (desirable)

• A good understanding of issues relating to higher education and student funding (desirable)

Qualifications 

 

• NVQ / A level education or relevant experience
