The Role
This post is based in Registry and Education Services, part of Student Services.
You will lead on a new function for the Directorate to deliver the integration of evaluation and impact activities across our education provision supporting regulatory compliance across access and participation, the Teaching Excellence Framework and Office for Students B conditions; working with academic and professional service colleagues to develop our evaluation and evidence framework and deliver evaluation activities and data insight; and to monitor the implementation of key education interventions across the student lifecycle from point of entry supporting the delivery of our Education Strategy. You will also contribute to shared responsibilities across the team and ad hoc projects.
You will work closely in collaboration with team members across Registry and Education Services, colleagues across the institution including senior management, those in central services, faculties, academic units, across branch campuses and with the Students’ Union (NUSU).

Key Accountabilities
- Building and maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the external higher education policy context, including regulatory requirements relating to access and participation and the Teaching Excellence Framework.Leading the development and implementation of an institutional evaluation and evidence framework which uses appropriate quantitative and qualitative approaches.
- Embedding a culture of understanding and awareness of equity, access and participation for all colleagues, working collaboratively with colleagues and students across the institution, supporting a whole provider approach.
- Day to day management of the Education Evaluation Manager.
- Managing, co-ordinating and developing research and evaluation plans related to the Access and Participation Plan, Education Strategy and other initiatives, including considerations around design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination, working with key academic and professional service colleagues.
- Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness and impact of interventions to improve access and student outcomes which contributes to an institutional and national evidence base.
- Working with finance colleagues to monitor financial commitments made to the OfS in the Access and Participation Plan
- Managing key regulatory activities including the Access and Participation Plan development and implementation and Teaching Excellence Framework development and submission process.
- Writing and delivering evaluation and impact reports and presentations to a variety of audiences and to contribute to governance oversight by Senate and University Education Committee
- Contributing to capacity building in relation to data and evaluation by designing and delivering bespoke and generic workshops or training, to academic and professional services colleagues. Organising and leading events and activities for staff and students.
- Attending internal and external meetings and events to represent the Service/institution, providing expertise and input and feeding back on relevant developments and issues, including horizon scanning for sector developments.
- Identifying and participating in continuous learning and professional development as appropriate.
- Any other duties, consistent with the post’s grade, as requested by the Director of Registry and Education Services, or Academic Registrar.
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience (essential)
- Demonstrable knowledge of current issues around UK higher education, widening participation and social mobility.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly experience in report writing, data visualisation and communication, and presentations, tailoring to different audiences including non-specialist stakeholders at all levels.
- Confidence in understanding and interpreting data and ability to translate complex data into clear and actionable insights and recommendations that support management decision-making.
- Knowledge of evaluation and research methods, with a developed understanding of a range of quantitative and qualitative methods, ethics and data protection, and ability to select and apply appropriately.
- Demonstrable experience of monitoring and evaluating programmes or interventions in education, health, or another related field.
- Well-developed long-term planning skills with the ability to work proactively, independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent IT skills including use of databases, Powerpoint, Microsoft Word and advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Experience of establishing and maintaining successful internal and external working relationships and networks.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a quantitative subject or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
- A postgraduate qualification or equivalent formal training or significant work experience in research and evaluation methods is highly desirable.
