The Role
Applications are invited for a talented and ambitious Research Associate to work as part of the Patient Safety Research Collaborative (PSRC) within the School of Pharmacy. Working with Professor Adam Todd, Dr Anna Robinson-Barella, and Professor Clare Bambra, the post holder will be expected to contribute across various quantitative projects about understanding and reducing inequalities in access to preventative healthcare services in the North East in the context of patient safety.
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant topic and advanced quantitative experience within the area of health care inequalities. Required experience and skills include:
• Evidence synthesis and systematic reviews
• Advanced quantitative data collection and analysis (including longitudinal analysis);
• Preventative medicine (including understanding of vaccination programmes);
• Publications in high quality peer reviewed journals;
• Engagement with partners across various agencies (including NHS and local authority stakeholders).
100% FTE post for 6 months. The successful candidate must be able to start as soon as possible.

Specific Responsibilities of Position
1. Carry out high quality applied health research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard
2. Contribute to study design and collect, organise and analyse quantitative data relating to various projects focused on uptake and utilisation of preventative medicine services
3. Ensure that research activity and any data collection is consistent with current research governance instructions and Data Protection legislation.
4. Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the programme of work
5. Prepare papers for publication in high quality peer reviewed journals, and disseminate findings at conferences as required
6. Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in research methods and other transferable skills.
7. To contribute to the activities of the Patient Safety Research Collaboration and to other relevant research infrastructures in the Faculty and University
8. Work with relevant stakeholders including members of the public to ensure research is relevant to their needs
9. Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support the projects as required by the project leads
10. Undertake teaching related to patient safety, preventative medicine and/or methods expertise
Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience - Essential
• A PhD (awarded) on the topic of health care inequalities and patient safety
• Demonstrable experience of advanced quantitative data collection and analysis (including longitudinal analysis)
• Demonstrable experience in systematic reviewing particularly international umbrella reviews
• Knowledge of preventative medicine particularly vaccine programmes and safety and inequality challenges therein
• Experience of undertaking applied research with engagement with NHS and local authority stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and as part of the research project team
• Ability to prioritise key tasks
• Ability to carry out research project work within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and producing research to an appropriate standard
• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively with others
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect research/personal data according to protocols and principles of good research practice
• Ability to work in teams, across disciplines
• Evidence of publication in high quality peer reviewed journals as a first author
• Ability to present findings at leading health, public health and social science conferences
• Ability to develop own programme of work and apply for funding (e.g fellowships)
