Salary: £27,131 to £28,762 with progression to £31,411 per annum

The Role


Working within the Student Life Unit, reporting to the Student Communications and Engagement Manager, you will deliver a range of projects and initiatives related to the international student experience. 

This role will lead on coordinating the creation and delivery of communications and information including:

  • identifying opportunities to improve the experience of international students at all stages of the student journey
  • improving the student experience for international students within the University’s digital ecosystem
  • producing and reporting data related to international student engagement with communications and activities


You will also work with colleagues in the wider Student Life team to promote and encourage the effective integration of international and home students and lead on various Student Experience projects.


To be successful in this role you should have experience of the University, connecting with students and an understanding of the challenges faced by international students in Higher Education. You will need to demonstrate the ability to work to challenging deadlines as well as excellent organisational, interpersonal and written skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Significantly contribute to the work of the Student Life Team and support the Student Communications and Engagement Manager
  • Work in collaboration with the Project Coordinator (International Integration) to deliver key events and activities to support the integration of international students, including International Welcome activities
  • Prepare communications and web-based content aimed at international students
  • Undertake listening exercises to gain insight into the experience of international students
  • Contribute to the improvement of the digital student journey and the experience of international students within the University’s digital ecosystem
  • Prepare project reports, project documentation and data reports relating to international student engagement  
  • Input into and on occasion lead discussions regarding the student experience, digital student experience and the international student experience 
  • Act as a source of information, knowledge and expert advice on matters relating to international student communications
  • Work in collaboration with Student Life colleagues to recruit, manage and support a team of Student Ambassadors, work placement students or interns to assist with event and activity delivery
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of relevant activities, benchmarking, good practice, policy matters and trends within Higher Education
  • To undertake any other duties reasonably requested in the delivery of the University’s strategic objectives


The Person (Essential)


Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

  • Experience and understanding of the current Newcastle University student experience, and the international student experience in particular 
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • A high level of intercultural sensitivity 
  • Experience of meeting demanding targets 
  • Demonstrable competence in planning, project management and evaluating effectiveness 
  • Flexible approach to working patterns which will include working outside of normal office hours at specific times of peak activity 
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, the internet and web editing software
