The School of Engineering is recruiting a Professor of Biomedical Engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Engineering Schools in the UK

Biomedical Engineering at Newcastle University has unique strengths through its close collaboration between the Schools of Engineering and Computing and the Faculty of Medical Sciences and local hospitals. Furthermore, the complex pathways to clinical translation are strengthened through expertise in the hospitals’ medical physics teams and from academics in the law school specialising in regulatory law. Historical strengths in the clinical translational pathway include tissue engineering and neuroprosthetics. This new Professor in Biomedical Engineering will complement these existing strengths and help establish Newcastle University as a major national and international hub for Biomedical Engineering research.

The position is based in the School of Engineering and is open to a broad range of interdisciplinary activity at the nexus between electrical and electronic engineering, biomechanics, neuroscience, orthopaedic engineering, tissue engineering, biomedical signal and image processing and clinical translation. It is expected that the post holder will have cross-faculty ambition both in research and research-informed teaching. The role will have the opportunity to support our MSc in Biomedical Engineering and MSc in Communications and Signal Processing.

The Professor of Biomedical Engineering will join Professors Kenny Dalgarno (Tissue engineering), Patrick Degenaar (Neuroprosthetics) and Professor Tom Joyce (Orthopaedic engineering) in developing a centre of research excellence in biomedical engineering across the University. In addition to bringing together disciplines within the School of Engineering and from across the University, the role will also engage with charitable groups and industry/business partners who provide us with financial, logistical and in-kind support for our research projects.
