The University is looking to appoint a new Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS). This role reports to the Vice-Chancellor and leads one of the largest health faculties in the UK with around 8,300 students, 2,100 staff and a turnover of £230m. In FMS we educate for life, nurturing the next generation of practitioners, clinicians, scientists and educationalists. Ranked 80 globally for Medicine (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025), FMS’s mission is to create a world in which we all live better, for longer. Our expertise spans understanding rare diseases to multi-morbidity and ageing, all with a focus on improving health and wellbeing for all. Research is at the heart of what we do and how we educate students. We are home to the National Innovation Centre for Ageing; the development of the UK’s first Health Innovation Neighbourhood; and the world’s biggest study into non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. NUMed Malaysia is our purpose-built campus delivering identical programmes of study to our UK-based provision in medical and biomedical sciences in Southeast Asia.
As well as providing leadership of the Faculty, the Pro Vice-Chancellor will play an important wider leadership role, with colleagues on the University Executive Board, adopting a collaborative and integrated approach to delivering University -wide success. This is a role for an inspirational leader who can lead, shape, and fulfil the agenda of the Faculty. You will demonstrate an outstanding reputation in research in one of the Faculty’s disciplines, a commitment to excellent education, proven leadership and management credentials and the vision and capability to enhance the Faculty’s performance. You will bring connectivity to research funders and industry and a strong ability to engage outside academia as well as across disciplines.
