The Role

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced researcher looking to a part innovative Networked and Ubiquitous Systems Engineering (NUSE) Group to specifically focus on building a digital platform that harnesses the benefits of a sustainable circular supply chain in order to reduce waste, increase safety, and improve fiscal responsibility. As part of an EPSRC funded project you will develop a software platform making using of multichain (multi-layered Blockchains) that provides the audit trail of all activities undertaken within each stage of Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) life cycle. The platform will also implement a “material and service passport” using smart contract technology to demonstrate the circularity potential of materials/ assets that can be verifiable by stakeholders (e.g., designers, manufacturers and clients).

 

Your key position is: 
•    Responsible for supporting the delivery of platform, helping to develop and support collaborating researchers by determining new/modified systems to support the project aims;
•    Implements and evaluates the platform through available Blockchain test networks and assesses the transactions costs, mining time, overheads etc;
•    Collaborate with other researchers to develop appropriate technical solutions to research problems. Writes and codes programmes according to specifications;
•    Present work and provide updates, including the effective communication of complex or technical information, at project meetings and events;
•    Write operational documentation and provide training and support for team members and researchers to ensure effective use of relevant technologies;
•    Maintain and develop knowledge to keep abreast of the latest and most relevant technologies related to the project;
•    Any other duties and responsibilities within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required. 

 

You will benefit by collaborating cross-Faculty with our internal stakeholder Prof. Rajiv Ranjan, Chair Professor of Computing Science and Internet of Things, Newcastle university, UK and collaboration with Cardiff university. 

 

We are looking for an individual who is committed, motivated and with decision making ability together with an aptitude for independent working as well as working as part of a diverse, interdisciplinary team. You will be present at informal research events and review development meetings, publish research findings in journals, and disseminate findings at scientific conferences.

 

This position is available on a full time, fixed term for three years.

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

•    Experience or taught knowledge in one or more areas of Software Engineering. Including, but not limited to; Multi-layered Blockchains, Microservices, Serverless Cloud Computing, EU & UK Compliance regulations. 
•    Good knowledge of Hyperledger or Ethereum, Kusama, Polkadot, Moonbeam, Hydra, Viper, Simplicity, Solidity, Truffle and Chaincode is extremely required.
•    Experience in developing Dapps and Blockchain wallets (e.g., MetaMask).
•    Good knowledge of cybersecurity domains, including data privacy, threat models, cryptography and encryption techniques.
•    Ability to learn interdisciplinary subjects (i.e., circular supply chain models, built environment, data privacy regulations etc.) and integrate them into the system’s implementation.
•    Understanding of software development tools and methodologies, including programming languages, documentation, testing, version control, issue tracking, and continuous integration.
•    Track record of developing software that is used by others.
•    Ability to manage own work, including planning and execution.
•    Understanding of a range of data manipulation methods and tools is desirable.
•    Knowledge of Linux, Container-based Virtualization and HPC technologies.
•    Strong knowledge of JavaScript/Angular/Node.js/TypeScript, Python.
•    Cloud-based technologies: AWS/Azure/Google Cloud, Docker/Jenkins/Kubernetes.
•    Good knowledge of Full Stack development, Web development, Data structures, Data architecture, Smart contracts, Consensus Design.
•    Experience of working on Blockchain projects (Polkadot, Ethereum, IOTA) is desirable.
•    Excellent interpersonal, listening and communications skills, both verbal and written.
•    Good communication skills including the ability to present complex or technical information and the ability to work with others to understand technical and user requirements is desirable.
•    Experience of deployment of software solutions is desirable.
