The Role
If you are a penultimate-year Newcastle University student looking for a year-long placement in a vibrant and busy marketing and communications team, we want to hear from you.
We are looking for a creative and ambitious student, to provide marketing and comms support to the Rob Wood Enterprising Future Academy, the Careers Service and the Student Life team.
We need an articulate and motivated colleague to work independently, and as part of a team, to communicate with a wide range of students, graduates, academics, and businesses. You’ll have an eagerness to learn new skills, have brilliant attention to detail, a flair for writing engaging copy, and will be an adept communicator who excels at planning and organising. You’ll also be an enthusiastic content creator, confident in front of a camera and have experience in graphic design with an interest in video editing.
During your time with us, you’ll gain a range of experience, including content creation, social media management, design, video editing, analytics, market research and so much more which will stand you in good stead for your future.

Key Accountabilities
- Work within the Marketing & Comms team to provide marketing support to all teams including the Rob Wood Enterprising Futures Academy, the Careers Service and the Student Life team
- Generate new content for social media, blogs, newsletters, and the Student Noticeboard
- Design and create visual graphics in line with brand guidelines using Adobe Creative Suite software & Canva (for social media, print materials, merchandise etc)
- Management of Instagram accounts including community management and keeping up-to-date with new social media trends
- Plan and create engaging social media content for Instagram (in particular, Instagram stories and Reels)
- Lead on the reporting of monthly social media statistics
- Support the planning, promotion and delivery of regular events across the Rob Wood Enterprising Futures Academy, the Careers Service and the Student Life team
- Contribute new ideas, driven by user demand, for student-facing activities
- Conduct independent market research projects
- Undertake general tasks and duties as directed by your line manager,
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Strong team player, with ability to work alone when necessary
- Strong verbal and written communication skills e.g. proposals, reports and presentations
- Able to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
- Use of Office IT systems including Word and PowerPoint, databases and web/internet
- Excellent understanding of social media, in particular, Instagram
- Good copywriting skills
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Excellent time management and ability to use initiative where appropriate
- Experience with design software, in particular, Adobe InDesign and Canva

Qualifications
- You must have recently completed the penultimate year of your undergraduate degree at Newcastle University, in any subject discipline, by the placement start date of August/September 2026 to be eligible for this role.
