The Role
 
Are you a highly organised individual with outstanding communication skills and looking to broaden your finance experience within the Payments Team? 
 
We are looking for a highly motivated, committed and reliable individual to join us. We need a team player who shows great attention to detail & enjoys communicating effectively with people at all levels and has good levels of numeracy, literacy, and IT skills. Within the role you will be supporting to produce all international currency payments and bank payments relating to vendors, students, employee weekly expense claims and monthly payroll runs. 
 
Reporting to the Payments Team Leader, the post-holder ensures that international currency payments, domestic bank transfers, payroll-related payments and expense reimbursements are processed accurately, in a timely manner and in accordance with established financial controls and procedures. The role contributes to maintaining robust financial governance by verifying bank details, reconciling transactions, monitoring authorisations and ensuring that all payments are correctly recorded within the University’s finance systems. Working collaboratively within the team, the post-holder supports the efficient delivery of payment services to vendors, students and colleagues across the institution.

This role is a full time, fixed term position available until 25th June 2027. 

The role will close on Monday 6th April and the interviews will be held on Thursday 16th April.

Key Accountabilities
  • Report on and process all international currency payments, and payments to international bank accounts for a variety of stakeholders.  Using the University’s finance system to identify outstanding payment requests/invoices daily and initiate payment using the University’s international payment software.
  • Process all urgent same day bank payment requests (CHAPS or Faster Electronic Payment) using the University’s on-line banking platform
  • Identify new international payment vendors and verify beneficiary bank details to comply with university financial control procedures.
  • Identify any changes to existing international vendor beneficiary bank detail and ensure verification is received before amendments are processed.
  • Create and maintain templates in respect of beneficiary bank details within the University’s international payment banking software.
  • Reconcile and post all relevant outgoing payments from the University’s on-line banking platform on a daily basis and ensure all payments are valid and accounted for within the University’s finance system.
  • Ensure the correct level of authorisation has been applied to all forms of payment requests.
  • Record and maintain any bank charges applied by the University’s banking and card merchant services providers.
  • Identify any rejected international payments and verify beneficiary bank details before payment is reissued. 
  • Identify any returned vendor/student BACS payments and liaise with the Payments Team Leader to ensure the relevant postings are made in the University’s finance system.
  • Maintain and review all Direct Debit payments made by the University for various contracts and services. 
  • Any other duties relevant to the post.
  • You will provide support within the Payments team, with involvement across a variety of functions to ensure the smooth and accurate delivery of services.

Qualifications

  • Educated to a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A–C) or equivalent, including Mathematics and English or relevant experience.
