The Role

We’re looking for a highly motivated Organic Social Media Assistant to join our  Social Media Team within the Marketing and Communications Unit.

 

 

 

As Organic Social Media Assistant, you will support the day-to-day management, planning, and delivery of the University’s social media activity. Working closely with the Digital Marketing & Social Media Manager and other internal stakeholders, you’ll help shape and share engaging stories that reach key audiences across platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and TikTok.

 

 

 

Work will take place mainly on campus in Great North House, but you will also work on content creation across campus and in Newcastle.

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Assist in the planning, creation, and delivery of social media campaigns
  • Produce and curate multimedia content (text, images, video, graphics, audio) for a range of audiences
  • Use social media tools for scheduling, publishing and monitoring
  • Contribute to expanding our content formats and engaging new audiences
  • Respond to online enquiries and conversations
  • Produce analytics reports to measure campaign performance
  • Identify and share high-quality UGC (user-generated content)
  • Monitor competitor activity and stay up to date with digital trends
  • Support delivery of internal social media training and guidance for staff
  • Help coordinate and mentor the Student Content Creators team

 

 

The Person

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience managing branded social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook etc.)
  • Confident in community management and customer support through social media
  • Understanding of brand reputation and social media risk management
  • Experience with social media management tools (e.g. Sprout Social, Hootsuite)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Premier Pro)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education Sector
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with reporting tools

Qualifications

 

Educated to A-level standard/equivalent vocational qualification or relevant work experience
