The Role

The International Office leads the University’s international student recruitment and global engagement.
We are delighted to be able to recruit a motivated and passionate individual to join our International Recruitment team. Your role will be to support the development and delivery of the student recruitment strategy for the priority region of China. You will be responsible for managing different recruitment channels and contribute to the broader engagement and reputation building for Newcastle University.
In order to be successful, you will be an enthusiastic creative, results-orientated individual, driven about innovation, with outstanding relationship management. You will be committed to excellence in the field of international education, and/or sales, marketing, and student recruitment. You should have proven leadership qualities to drive forward your activity area and influence others within a complex organisational and external environment.
Your role will provide leadership, coordination and support for engagement with China, (experience of the Chinese, East Asia and Asian markets is desirable) in doing so, they will contribute to the development and delivery of Newcastle University’s ambitious objectives for internationalisation and international student recruitment.
It is important to note, this role is based at Newcastle Campus and does require, at times, extensive travel ,which does vary in accordance with strategic priorities.

Key Accountabilities
- Contribute, alongside the Head of International Recruitment and in collaboration with Faculties and Schools, to the development and implementation of international strategies for Newcastle University.
- Responsible for student recruitment, market development and relationship management in one or more key target regions for international student recruitment and engagement.
- Develop, deliver and monitor annual and multi-annual regional engagement strategies, activity plans, KPIs, and budgets for activities covering:
- International student recruitment
- International partnerships and stakeholder relations
- Development of profile, brand and reputation
- Represent Newcastle University on visits and events overseas and on campus in support of University objectives. The volume of travel may be extensive but will vary in accordance with strategic priorities.
- Develop and manage excellent and innovative operations to support regional engagement and international student recruitment.
- Develop deep expertise and market intelligence for designated region(s). Undertake market research and analysis and reporting of data to monitor performance, support decision-making, and develop market intelligence.

Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with international institutions, agents and other strategic international partners, with the aim of achieving strategic objectives.

Develop and maintain excellent and effective relationships with staff in academic and professional service units involved in international relations and student recruitment.

Where required, manage, develop and motivate regional and recruitment support staff based in Newcastle or overseas.

Any other duties as directed.
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- The ability to think strategically and experience of both planning and leading delivery against a range of priorities and targets.
- A track record of achieving results backed by a creative approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrated relationship management experience with a focus on customer service.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, including experience of reporting and market research, and the ability to support the development of highly effective operational procedures and policy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including an ability to relate to and influence people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and high quality written and presentation skills.
- A high level of initiative and adaptability, including flexibility regarding working hours and a willingness to travel internationally when required.
- A good standard of numeracy, effective IT skills and attention to detail.
- A high level of discretion, tact and diplomacy.
- Experience of market research and/or data analysis. (desirable)
- Knowledge of international higher education environments. (desirable)
- Language skills relevant to regions targeted for international engagement. (desirable)

Qualifications
- A university degree and demonstrable relevant work experience in an externally facing role in higher education, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in other sectors.
