Salary: £31,406 to £33,309 with progression to £40,927 per annum

We’re looking for an Internal Communications and Intranet Manager to join our team of dedicated communications professionals at the heart of our University community. With a proven experience of understanding key messages, developing, and delivering creative, impactful, and engaging campaigns to deadline and on budget, you will enjoy working flexibly to manage multiple demands on your time and interacting with stakeholders of all levels across the University.

 

Working closely with the Senior Internal communications Manager, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of a varied programme of campaigns and events across a range of University-wide platforms and channels to promote colleagues’ understanding of and engagement with our University vision, strategy and values.  You will also have responsibility for the day-to-day development and operation of the University’s colleague intranet.

 

The aim is to engender a sense of community across the institution by ensuring that colleagues feel informed about the University’s aims and ambitions in a timely and appropriate manner.

 

Closely aligned to the delivery of the University’s Vision and Strategy, you will be responsible for raising the profile and understanding of, and increasing levels of advocacy for, the key messages associated with our Vision and Values,

Key Accountabilities
•    Supporting the delivery and implementation of strategic internal communications

•    Working in a self-directed way in collaboration with relevant colleagues in the Faculties and Professional Services, to ensure the development and implementation of the University’s strategic internal communications through the creation and delivery of accurate and timely information for the intranet and other IC channels

•    Developing bespoke internal communications strategies to support specific projects and areas of the business with their communication requirements and in alignment with overarching IC Strategy

•    To research, develop and write clear and informative communications for colleagues in support of the delivery of the University’s strategic priorities and values

•    To lead on specific university projects where expert IC advice is needed also attending and representing internal communications at meetings with senior stakeholders where required

•    To work with academic units and professional services colleagues to identify topics and facilitate the production of compelling content and assets for a range of internal communication channels that is up to date, understandable, accessible, written in Plain English and relevant for an internal audience

•    With responsibility for identifying, reviewing, and sharing best practice and gaps within internal communications and the intranet to ensure continuous improvement and support the review of the internal communication strategy.  Reviewing Developing and updating guidance to add to the IC/Intranet toolkit

•    To be responsible for the development, co-ordination, and management of an Internal Communications Forum, building a network of internal communicators to facilitate sharing of best practice

•    To develop, plan and organise an annual programme of in person and virtual IC events, including the annual series of Vice-Chancellor’s Town Halls and Executive Board Webinars in support of the University’s strategic aims and ambitions, and in response to ongoing major developments in the Higher Education environment. To evaluate the success of events by assessing audience participation and reaction, with a view to continuous improvement

•    To assist in the planning and delivery of the annual series of Celebrating Success events, which are designed to reward and recognise the achievements of colleagues across the institution

•    Responsibility for the day-to-day development and delivery of the colleague intranet

•    To lead and manage the day-to-day development and operation of the intranet, supporting colleagues with site development and creation, advising on content and best practice. To be the main point of contact and support for intranet queries; monitoring enquiries and preparing responses, and providing advice, where necessary in consultation with relevant colleagues

•    Working closely with colleagues in NUIT, to take the lead on the continuous improvement of the University colleague intranet as a communications tool, using intranet analytics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the intranet on a regular basis, considering usage, content, and quality of information and involving stakeholders to ensure it is aligned with user requirements

•    To manage content planning, working with teams across the university to ensure key campaigns are featured appropriately on the intranet and reflect messages on other internal communications platforms

•    Create and disseminate standards relating to information delivery such as documentation templates, house writing style, usability, and accessibility standards. Ensure consistency and compliance with the University brand and style guidelines

•    To be responsible for the co-ordination of the intranet forum for our network of editors in the Faculty and Professional Services to ensure sharing of best practice and generation of innovative content. To lead on the development of content and the delivery of the intranet training programme for new colleagues

•    Supporting colleagues in the Corporate Communications Team in the delivery of corporate high profile external and internal events
 
The Person 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

•    Technical proficiency/experience working with intranet platforms/ online content management systems, specifically Sharepoint
•    Proven track record in internal communications including event management
•    Knowledge/experience working with multiple internal communication channels
•    Understanding of digital landscape
•    Experience of managing and monitoring social media channels
•    Excellent organisation and time management skills
•    Excellent problem-solving skills and use of initiative
•    Outstanding team working skills
•    High degree of political awareness
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a command of grammar, spelling and punctuation and attention to detail
•    Effective in working on own initiative and in juggling a busy workload, involving the management of multiple tasks
•    Confidence and professionalism in personal interactions with colleagues and a friendly demeanour, able to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and others at all levels, whilst having the ability to negotiate and influence where appropriate. Advanced IT skills including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, adobe, and a high level of competency in researching information using the internet

•    Ability to research, collate and understand new information quickly and to communicate it in a variety of easily-accessible formats


Attributes and Behaviour

•    This role involves liaison with members of Executive Board and senior academic and Professional Services colleagues. The post requires a high degree of diplomacy and understanding of the University environment, and a flexible approach to work, including a willingness to undertake administrative and operational tasks in the delivery of events and projects

 

Qualifications

•      Educated to degree level, equivalent internal communications qualification and/ or a proven track record in internal communications
