We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

Salary: £31,406 - £33,309 with progression to £40,927 per annum

Closing Date: 23 September 2021

The Role

Working in the Integration Services team, you will be primarily responsible for the creation and support of data feeds and integrations between systems of record and University IT applications. Integration Services operates a mature integration platform and data hub, a number of APIs and web services and a fledgling ESB service. You will be involved in the design, test and implementation of a variety of diverse enterprise-level data integrations and ensure that they fulfil business needs. You will be required to develop a good understanding of the University’s complex data architecture and processes and contribute to the development of clear technical documentation.

The ability to form effective collaborative relationships with diverse teams (technical and non-technical) across the University and beyond is essential, as are solid analytical, logical and problem-solving skills and good attention to detail.  You will have sound planning and organisational skills and be comfortable working on multiple projects at once.  You will take responsibility for your own work, seeking and accepting help and guidance where necessary. You must also be willing to contribute to the success of the team through sharing your knowledge and experience and providing cover and support.

A willingness to learn new technologies, as appropriate, is important. Experience in one or more of the following is sought: ETL tools (eg Talend), SQL, ESB, web services, database design and configuration. However, a good attitude and the willingness and demonstrable aptitude to learn the required technical skills is also highly valued.

For informal enquiries please contact Dave Churchley, Integration Manager at Dave.Churchley@newcastle.ac.uk or Dave Sharples, Head of Software Engineering and Enterprise Solutions at Dave.Sharples@newcastle.ac.uk.
