The Role


We are seeking a Full Stack Developer to ramp-up the Centre’s Ageing Intelligence™ mission in developing software-based solutions dedicated to the ageing population and their stakeholders. You’ll be part of a cross-functional team that’s responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment.


You should be comfortable around both front-end and back-end coding languages, development frameworks and third-party libraries. You should also be a team player with a knack for visual design and utility. If you’re also familiar with accessibility, ethical principles in data management, user Centric and Agile methodologies, we’d like to meet you.


The UK’s National Innovation Centre for Ageing at Newcastle University has been funded by Government and the University to create a world in which we all live better, for longer. Key Accountabilities


  • Collaborate with development teams and product managers to ideate software solutions
  • Design and develop client-side and server-side architecture
  • Build the front-end of applications through appealing visual design
  • Develop and manage well-functioning databases and applications
  • Write effective application program interfaces and relevant technical documentation
  • Test and maintain (troubleshoot, debug and upgrade) software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency
  • Create security and data protection settings
  • Build features and applications with a mobile responsive design
  • Work with Data Scientists and Analysts to develop and improve software
  • Conduct analysis, presenting results and putting forward recommendations through the provision of briefings, presentations or written reports, to support informed decision making on improvements to support the strategic aims of the organisation
  • Coordinate digital upgrade programmes with third party contractors, including the design of technical specifications and documentation, procurement and project management of works
  • Champion usability and accessibility


The Person (Essential)


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role
  • Experience developing desktop and mobile applications
  • Familiarity with common stacks
  • Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery)
  • Knowledge of multiple back-end languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python) and JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Node.js)
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB), web servers (e.g. Apache) and UI/UX design
  • Good knowledge of Accessibility principles, WCAG 2.0 and overall W3C standards
