Salary: £25,742 to £26,444 with progression to £27,979 per annum

The Role 

 

We have a new and exciting opportunity for an early career Graduate Trainee to join our NU Finance team.

 

You will be part of a cohort of graduates, with the role rotating between different placements within the Financial Control and Internal Audit teams initially.

 

NU Finance is undergoing an exciting transformation, making improvements to our systems and processes, and we were recently shortlisted for Public Sector Team of the Year for the upcoming 2024 North-East Accountancy Awards. 

  • The Financial Control team is responsible for accounts production, external financial reporting, technical accounting advice, taxation compliance and robust financial control across the University.  

  • The Internal Audit team is responsible for providing robust and objective assurance on, and insight and advice about, the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal controls, covering the full scope of the University’s operations (including Finance and other areas).

This opportunity gives you fully funded study towards the postgraduate level 7 Accountancy Professional apprenticeship standard and the ability to achieve the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification, which is expected to take four years.  

 

Progression within the role to the next grade is available upon completion of the Knowledge and Skills stage of the ACCA. You will develop the skills and confidence to work increasingly more independently in your role as you progress through the qualification and gain more experience. 

About you 

You should be a graduate from an undergraduate programme of study within the last two years or due to complete your undergraduate programme this summer.  We are keen to hear from candidates who possess a strong interest, and potentially some experience (although this is not essential), in finance, accounting and audit.  

 

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate good analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills. Experience of working with a range of stakeholders and balancing competing priorities would also be beneficial to the role.
