Following the retirement of the current incumbent, the University is now seeking to appoint a new Executive Director of Finance.


Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor and President, the Executive Director of Finance will provide strategic financial direction to the University, enabling it to achieve its strategic ambitions and to maintain its financial prosperity. As a central member of Executive Board, the appointee will contribute to developing the University’s wider Vision and Strategy. The appointee will work closely with Council and colleagues across the institution.


The incoming Executive Director of Finance shall be an effective business partner to internal and external stakeholders. The Executive Director will need to strike the right balance between an entrepreneurial approach and custodianship of the University. They shall provide leadership on capital projects, such as the Campus for Ageing and Vitality, and will work closely with regional and national partners to secure important funding. At an international level, the Executive Director shall support our campuses in Malaysia and Singapore. This is a challenging but exciting time for the Higher Education sector, and Newcastle University is very well-placed to capitalise on future opportunities.


The successful candidate will be an exceptional finance leader with experience of working in complex environments and of liaising with a broad range of stakeholders. They will have a successful track-record of leading organisational and cultural change. The role will require excellent communication and relationship-building skills, as well as fine judgement, and a strategic mind. The ideal candidate would be flexible, resilient, and collegiate in their approach. You will also bring a successful track record of leading and empowering teams.
