About us

Each year, the Exams and Awards team schedules and manages over 2,500 different exams equating to over 100,000 individual exam sittings. On a typical day during the main exam periods, exams are run simultaneously across more than 40 different exam venues. These range from small venues for individual candidates to venues accommodating up to 350 candidates. The exam venues are mainly based on campus.

Exams are a mixture of written exams and digital exams (i.e. those taken using either a PC or the students’ own devices) and invigilators are expected to invigilate both types of exam. In addition, some duties involve invigilating the designated exam venues used to accommodate students who have been granted alternative exam arrangements including extra time, rest breaks, the use of a PC/assistive software or to sit in a smaller/individual venue.

The Role

The Examinations Team are looking to recruit Assistant and Senior Examination Invigilators to manage and oversee the smooth running of University exams (both written and digital) within the designated exam venues.

You will be friendly, helpful and approachable and demonstrate a sympathetic and supportive approach when advising students and responding to their queries or concerns. You will remain professional and vigilant at all times to ensure the University’s exam processes and policies are implemented effectively and that the integrity of the exam is maintained.

As an Assistant Examination Invigilator, you will have excellent communication skills and experience of working in a team. Good general IT skills are also essential as well as a high attention to detail. You will demonstrate a flexible and positive attitude and be reliable and punctual when arriving for scheduled duties. The ability to work calmly under pressure is essential.

Our Senior Examination Invigilators, will also have exceptional planning and organisation skills with a high attention to detail. You will be able to work independently whilst applying or implementing the guidance and instructions provided and lead a team of between 1-8 other exam invigilators depending on the size and nature of the exam venue. The ability to remain calm under pressure and to be flexible when managing unforeseen circumstances is essential.

Please note that all invigilators are expected to be available for at least 50% of the main University exam periods taking place between 9-20 January 2023 and 22 May – 9 June 2023.
