The Role
Newcastle University Business School is seeking a highly motivated and organised Engagement Officer to join our Engagement, Recruitment and Marketing Team.
This role sits within the School’s Engagement Team and supports both the Business Partnerships and Alumni Engagement functions. You will play a key role in developing and coordinating relationships with external partners and alumni to support strategic initiatives, enhance the student and graduate experience, and strengthen the School’s reputation.
You will be the first point of contact for a wide range of external stakeholders, including corporate partners, non-profit organisations, and alumni. You will help identify and match opportunities for engagement, contribute to School rankings through alumni activity, and support events and initiatives that connect external communities with the School’s work.
To support the strategic engagement objectives of Newcastle University Business School by developing and coordinating relationships with external partners and alumni. This role sits within the Engagement Team and contributes to enhancing the student experience, strengthening external collaborations, and fostering lifelong connections with the alumni community.
Working across both the Business Partnerships and Alumni Engagement functions, you will report jointly to the Business Partnerships Manager and the Alumni Relations Manager. You will play a key role in delivering integrated engagement activities, liaising with a wide range of stakeholders including corporate partners, non-profit organisations and alumni to create mutually beneficial opportunities that align with the School’s strategic priorities
We’re looking for someone with experience in stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and CRM systems, alongside excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills. The ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple priorities is essential.
This is a full time, fixed term post available for approximately 10 months. This role is open to colleagues wishing to take a secondment and you should discuss this with your current manager before submitting your application.

Key Accountabilities
- Develop alumni and business relationships with external contacts to support initiatives across the Business School, including:
- Developing and delivering new opportunities for partners and alumni to support the Business School
- Strategically match engagement opportunities with appropriate business and alumni contacts
- Support the delivery of the School’s rankings strategy in relation to alumni engagement
- Provide the initial point of contact for external organisations and alumni. Act as a source of information, knowledge and advice for new contacts participating in and contributing to School initiatives
- Support the delivery of opportunities that enhance the experience of the recent graduate community, including activity which relates to employability outcomes
- Ensure administrative processes are followed including updating the relevant CRM systems with key updates and contacts
- Work pro‐actively across other teams within the Business School and wider University to ensure engagement plans are aligned and integrated
- Develop and publish regular engagement updates for relevant audiences, including alumni profiles and partnership case studies
- Represent the Business School externally by ensuring strong links to external networks that can generate new partnership opportunities
- Willingness and availability to work unsocial hours when required (evenings and weekends) including occasional UK and international travel
- Other duties, as defined by line manager, which support the successful achievement of Business School’s vision, strategy and operations
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience of developing and managing external partner relationships
- Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders from a range of backgrounds
- Knowledge of issues relevant to developing corporate and/or alumni partnerships
- Proven ability to use initiative and adopt a creative approach to problem solving
- Excellent IT skills
- Ability to collect, manage and interpret data
- Experience and understanding of customer relationship management
- Experience of budget management and monitoring
Desirable
- Understanding of the complexities of global education marketing
- An understanding of the global graduate labour market
Attributes and Behaviour
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of staff and stakeholders and to work well within and across teams
- Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills
- Excellent writing, editing and proof‐reading skills with an ability to ensure style is appropriate to the medium, message and audience
- Excellent project management skills, including time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines
Qualifications
- Educated to A level standard (or equivalent) plus experience in a similar role, or demonstrable significant work experience in a relevant role and/or comparable setting

- Degree or equivalent level qualification
