The Role

 

Our web estate is a key tool for communicating with our range of audiences, from prospective students and parents to alumni and businesses.

 

As a Digital Content Editor, you will plan, create, and edit effective and optimised digital content to support strategic objectives and user requirements. You will also provide support for web projects, managing content workflow and maintaining content guidelines and standards.
 

Working across digital content design, you will work within the Web Content Team based in the Faculty for Humanities and Social Sciences to deliver user focused web design and content. As a Digital Content Editor, you will work to integrate best practice throughout the web design process.

Key Accountabilities

  • Create and edit accurate and engaging web content to:
    • support School and business goals and meet user needs
    • be optimised for search engines and mobile devices
    • support digital marketing and social media campaigns
    • meet our web standards and digital content guidelines
  • Act as an approver of content created by colleagues
  • Lead on business-as-usual web requests to ensure websites are always up to date
  • Work with colleagues to create content suitable for the web, to support website development projects and take a lead on these where necessary
  • Carry out content audits to understand content effectiveness
  • Source, commission and edit photography, video and other graphic assets to support marketing activity and campaigns
  • If projects require it test and approve content as part of quality assurance and workflow processes
  • Contribute to our web and digital content guidelines and ongoing development
  • Advise on use of web and digital content guidelines so that editors can effectively employ our standards
  • Provide support for website usability research such as user testing data write ups and analysis, survey analysis and interpretation of web statistics
  • Use research and analytics findings to inform content improvements for our website pages and to monitor their effectiveness, adhering to SEO and web standards
  • Provide advice and editorial support to colleagues and provide website analytics to demonstrate content performance
  • Attend team meetings, critiques and workshops to collaboratively develop the web estate
  • Any other duties as required in-line with the general nature/scope of this role
     

The Person

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Confidence in using web content management systems and digital publishing platforms
  • Significant knowledge and experience of web usability, readability, accessibility and content delivery using best practice and industry standard tools
  • Significant experience of using digital analytics tools to report on website performance and of using data to make recommendations for improvement
  • Experience of the Adobe Creative Suite and other visual design tools
  • Excellent digital copywriting skills, including the ability to author effective micro-content, write for mobile and practice search engine optimisation techniques and sub-edit in house style
  • Excellent project management skills, including time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of staff and to work well within and across teams, where different skills, expertise and opinions are valued
  • Ability to effectively communicate our brand and web standards through content design
  • Manage time and resources by prioritising and organising effectively
  • Experience desired in creating effective information architecture for user journeys and wireframes for content design, including using software and websites (ie Invision, Adobe XD and Marvel, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification plus experience in a similar role or significant vocational experience, demonstrating development through progressively more demanding, relevant roles
