The Role


Based at DMI Young & Cunningham, North Shields you will lead a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project to digitally transform the business using process re-engineering of electronic commerce and digital marketing to enhance and improve the overall productivity of the business.

The KTP Associate will be an employee of Newcastle University but will spend most of their working time at the company’s premises in North Shields, Tyne and Wear.  Although the contract is fixed-term for a duration of 14 months, more than 70% of KTP staff are made a permanent job offer by their KTP company.


Young & Cunningham manufacture, stock and distribute valves and fluid control systems from their headquarters in North Shields. The name of Young & Cunningham can trace its history back to 1924 and remains one of the UK’s foremost suppliers of fluid control equipment. https://www.yandc.co.uk/

Key Accountabilities

  • Onboarding to the project and familiarisation with the business context within which the KTP will deliver a new capability
  • Develop and implement a digital marketing strategy
  • Increase the company’s digital footprint and create an online brand
  • Disseminate and raise awareness of the company via publications and conference presentations
  • Transfer knowledge to stakeholders through workshops, presentations, reports ensuring knowledge and expertise is fully embedded within Young and Cunningham
  • Throughout the project present findings to stakeholders and prepare full documentation


The Person (Essential)


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge in digital business, ecommerce and e-marketing
  • Experience in using qualitative and quantitative research methods beyond academic studies
  • Working experience in an e-retail environment and/or a marketing communication role that involves the use of digital marketing techniques including social media
  • Ability to work on conference papers and journal articles

  • Honours Degree Digital Business and/or Marketing or relevant subject


  • Masters Degree in this area
