We run multiple cafes and restaurants on the Newcastle University campus and an event catering business to deliver catering for a variety of events and conferences.

 

Our vision is to be the best University caterer in the country, and we're constantly striving to develop our service.

 

The university currently employs over 50 catering colleagues, and we are proud to have 13 eating places on our beautiful campus. We provide a wide range of products in our outlets. We have several accreditations, and this shows our continued commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

 

The Role

 

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, skilled Chef to join our team in the University’s In-House fast paced catering department EAT@NEWCASTLE with the flexibility to move between units on our Newcastle campus. This role is full time all year round.

 

We are looking for people who can bring a broad experience of working with food preparation and cooking and it is important that you hold a level 2 Food safety for caterer’s certificate.

 

We are particularly keen to hear from people who have demonstrable experience in a range of cooking techniques whilst always complying with Food Hygiene regulations.

 

Working with other chefs, we encourage you to generate new ideas in relation to menus to constantly meet the changing needs of our diverse customers.  As part of your role, you will support our Commis Chefs and provide steer and direction.

The Person 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation in relation to Food Hygiene, HACCP and Health and Safety and demonstrable allergen awareness
  • Experience in a large scale catering operation
  • Awareness of current trends and issues within the catering industry
  • Experience of managing people

Qualifications

  • Food Safety for Caterers Level 2 Certificate
  • City & Guilds 706/1/2 NVQ Level 1/2 in Food Production
