Salary: £41,526.00 - £55,750.00

This one year fixed term role will design, plan and implement a Career Framework for the University.  Work within the University has identified the need for greater understanding and awareness of the career opportunities and possible pathways available for people both within and outside the organisation. The production of a framework to provide clarity of career pathways within the University, will identify roles, levels, skills and experiences, including opportunities to develop into other areas.   The role will need to work with a wide range of teams across the University to understand the key drivers for a career framework, build this into the design of the framework and plan for its effective implementation, embedding the use of this tool in a range of communication, development and recruitment activities.


You will be able to build great relationships and exert influence at all levels in order to take people with you.  An experienced project manager, with expertise in reward and job design and/or job evaluation.   The role will report directly to Head of People Engagement and Culture and will work closely with the Professional Services Hub Leads and Directors of Operations in each of the Faculties.

Key Accountabilities


Project Management


  • Lead the Career Framework Project, building a robust project plan and reporting against agreed goals, priorities and outcomes.
  • Ensure that any model developed is aligned to the University Vision, Values and Guiding Principles, focusing on behaviours and supporting a compelling employer brand.
  • Partner and consult with Leaders, Managers, Organisational Development Leads, People Service Business Partners and other stakeholders to scope, design, implement and evaluate the model and project.
  • Investigate any technology or web based solutions to support the implementation of the project, building and presenting any required business case for additional funding.
  • Present recommendations, design principles and progress reports to stakeholders and decision making bodies at required intervals to gain any necessary approvals.
  • Investigate and research good practice within and outside of the sector to ensure any proposals are future proofed and consider current innovations.
  • Use benchmarking to ensure any job levelling activity is considered both from an internal and external perspective.
  • Plan and manage internal communications for the project to ensure all stakeholders are regularly updated.


The Person


Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Proven experience of leading HR projects under a transformational values based agenda.
  • Experience of managing organisational design programmes, job design or job evaluation work.
  • Track record of leading and managing projects in a multi faceted, fast paced, complex organisation and delivering on cost, quality and time requirements.
  • Ability to influence and challenge leaders and colleagues in ways that engender confidence and compliance.
  • Experience of engaging, consulting and working with relevant stakeholders, demonstrated by evidence of influencing and changing organisational policies or approaches.
  • Track record of innovation; you keep up to date with emerging trends and good practice, demonstrated by a wide and current network.
  • Experience of using and or implementing technology to enhance service provision.
