Salary: £18,709.00 - £19,133.00 per annum

The Role

 

Based within Estates Support Services, you will undertake a variety of portering, as well as supporting the cleaning team if required.

You will support the function of the Estates office by providing a range of services to Academic, Administrative and Service departments as an individual or as part of the team, undertaking specified duties to service level standards and customer service standards.  

 

Experience of working as part of a team, and in a customer focused environment is essential.  You must also have a flexible approach to working and be willing to work towards NVQ Level or similar qualification.

 

A current clean driving licence is desirable.

 

It is a requirement of the post that you, as part of your working week can work shifts between 0700 – 2300hrs and willing to work weekends, evenings, Bank Holidays and University Closure Days to cover University business, as and when required.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Provide reception and information services to staff, students and visitors, and ensuring timely and accurate information is given.

 

  • Undertake routine security duties within their designated area to contribute to the general security of the building, property and persons and reporting incidents and potential breaches of security e.g. setting alarm systems and locking down buildings.

  • Undertake general portering duties to satisfy the requirements of the Faculty/School/Service and to service level standards.

 

  • Before undertaking any significant moves, assess the work to be done, determine the manpower requirement and the equipment requirement.

 

  • Undertake general cleaning duties as required by Supervisors, including the use of floor maintenance equipment.

 

  • Undertake routine maintenance and operational duties to rectify minor faults and reporting other defects e.g. replacing light bulbs, fixing signs.

 

  • Respond to emergency situations and taking appropriate action to minimise damage/distress.  Where possible taking action to assist in rectifying the situation e.g. flooding, lift failure with occupants, fire alarm activation.

 

  • Routine testing of fire alarm systems to ensure systems work, compliance with statutory regulations and that faults are reported.

 

 

 

  • Receipt, sorting, and dispatch of internal, incoming and outgoing mail, including the completion of relevant documentation, to ensure the mail service operates to service level standards. Collect and deliver urgent by hand mail within agreed timescales.

 

  • Follow set procedures to ensure safety of personnel and premises, and respond to any breaches of University  or statutory regulations relating to items which may be received into the building e.g. packages containing source of radiation, suspect packages.

 

  • Respond to enquiries regarding the mail services available and advise on the most cost effective and appropriate means of dispatching mail to ensure that the customer needs are met and best value for money is obtained.

 

  • The collection and disposal of general (black bag) waste from all areas of the campus, to maintain the campus in a clean and safe condition.  The collection and storage of recyclable material awaiting collection to support the University environmental policy.  The collection and storage of clinical waste, ensuring it is transported and stored to comply with statutory regulations.

 

  • Collect and deliver cash, cheques, etc. from schools and services and deliver to Finance, on foot or by vehicle.

 

  • Assist in on the job training of new staff by working with them to enable them to gain the necessary experience and knowledge required to perform the job to the service level standards. Participate in the Universities PDR programme and participate in any training relevant to the job role. Participate in Risk Assessment.

 

  • Complete work record sheets providing information to identify that service level standards are being met.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Numerate and literate
  • Must be willing to work towards NVQ level 2 or similar qualification
     

Desirable

  • BICSc or COPC or similar cleaning qualification
  • Ability to use rotary floor cleaning equipment
