The Role

 

We are recruiting for an Anatomy Teaching Fellow for our Newcastle, UK campus.Based in the School of Medicine, you will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who will contribute to the delivery of anatomy teaching for MBBS and other undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

 

You will have the opportunity to contribute to education research projects and to the development of new sessions and will also be offered the opportunity to undertake the Certificate in Clinical Education.  

 

This post is offered on a one-year fixed term contract commencing in August 2025.

Key Accountabilities

  • Make a significant contribution to the School’s delivery of undergraduate anatomy teaching, learning and assessment,
  • Engage in medical education research under supervision from senior colleagues,
  • Deliver programmes of anatomy teaching in the MBBS programme and other degree courses. This includes giving lectures and leading teaching demonstrations in the Dissecting Room,
  • Undertake peer observation of teaching as a development exercise with colleagues,
  • Contribute to faculty development as a means to develop your teaching skills,
  • Contribute to other areas of teaching as appropriate and requested by the Head of school,
  • Undertake other academic and administrative duties as seen necessary by the Head of School including student admissions, recruitment, appraisal, mentoring and assessment.

 

The Person (Essential)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Knowledge of anatomy in current medical practice,
  • Experience of teaching to MBBS or other students,
  • Interest in the development of pedagogy and improving quality in this area.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of teaching in a hospital or general practice,
  • An active interest in current developments in the medical education development arena,
  • Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills,
  • To be open to learning and developing new teaching approaches,
  • Willingness to engage in continuing professional development and learn and develop new skills and expertise,
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team,
  • Ability to manage their time efficiently, including ability to work effectively to tight deadlines,
  • Experience of offering effective student support and guidance.

Qualifications 

Essential:

  • Medical Degree or other relevant Undergraduate degree
