Salary: £31,406 - £33,309 with progression to £40,927 per annum

The Role


We are looking for an exceptional individual to manage the lifelong relationships with our graduates (alumni).   We support a global network of 250,000 Newcastle University alumni in over 100 countries, delivering programmes to enable them to reach their potential. We also aim to inspire a continued connection with their University, supporting fellow graduates, current students and enhancing our global reputation. 


We are looking for candidates who can think strategically and demonstrate experience in building and shaping fruitful external relationships and managing large, complex projects and events.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, manage and deliver the University’s Alumni Engagement programme - providing an excellent service to the global alumni community and encouraging alumni to maintain a connection with their University
  • Manage and deliver compelling alumni volunteering programmes for the benefits of current students, fellow alumni and the University
  • Actively develop and maintain proactive relationships with a portfolio of senior alumni with potential to be significant volunteers and/or supporters
  • Oversee and evaluate a comprehensive programme of events and engagement opportunities across the UK and internationally in priority regions (China, India, Europe, South East Asia and USA).
  • Analyse performance, present results and demonstrate return on investment to the senior management team
  • Build visibility of the alumni network with current students, promoting the benefits of the alumni network and creating a cohesive student journey from induction through to graduation and beyond
  • Work closely with the Database Manager to maximise the accuracy of the alumni database – seeking to improve alumni data at all times and increase the number of contactable alumni through a planned programme
  • Contribute to alumni communications planning and delivery, raising the profile of the alumni network to all relevant stakeholders
  • Work closely with internal departments to ensure alignment of planning and delivery
  • Line management and mentoring of alumni engagement team members


The Person (Essential)


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  •  Proven ability to build and shape fruitful relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  •  Experience of informing, developing and delivering strategies, operational plans and targets
  •  Outstanding project management skills
  • Demonstrable experiene in a customer engagement, business development or marketing role
  •  Ability to identify opportunities and develop innovative approaches to deliver results
  •  Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritise workload, work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
  •  Excellent communication skills – verbal and written – with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences 
  •  Experience of using data and other sources to inform and evaluate the success of programmes and activities and to shape future developments
  •  A track record of providing effective leadership and management of a team to achieve results


  •  Understanding of the Higher Education sector and the role of alumni and supporter engagement

  • Degree and/or equivalent level of relevant experience
  • Professional qualification in the area of marketing/PR/fundraising is desirable
