The Role

 

We seek to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance who can contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, covering teaching areas including auditing, financial reporting, taxation, management accounting and corporate finance (including our Flying Start programme run in partnership with PWC and ICAEW), and who has a particular focus on global and sustainable aspects. You will be committed to the success and development of University Business School, and have a sustained international research and/or scholarly profile and trajectory, with an interest in interdisciplinary research in the Future of Work and developing future leaders. You will have the motivation to connect positively with organisations, and care about nurturing academic colleagues and students to reach their potential. 


For the T&R route, you must have a PhD in a related area and the ability to: secure external research funding, publish in internationally recognized journals and conduct research with the potential to create impact. You will be able to demonstrate research excellence/potential as evidenced by high quality publications. You must have the capacity to lead academics and manage and deliver outstanding teaching and management of programmes in higher education in the areas of auditing, financial reporting, taxation, management accounting or corporate finance.

 

For the T&S route, you must have a relevant professional qualification, Masters degree or a PhD in a relevant subject, and the capacity to lead academics and manage and deliver outstanding teaching and management of programmes in higher education in the areas of auditing, financial reporting, taxation, management accounting or corporate finance, and contribute scholarly outputs and educational citizenship in the School.

Key Accountabilities


•    As a Senior Lecturer, provide academic leadership and management and contribute to the Business School Vision and Strategy and the interdisciplinary themes of the Future of Work and Leading on Leadership
•    Provide education for life, that engages, challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated
•    Contribute to the Business School’s Triple Accreditation and Professional Body Accreditations
•    Demonstrate impact by developing research (T&R) or practice (T&S) based solutions to real-world problems and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work
•    To have a commitment to high quality teaching and learning and student support 
•    Provide high quality research-led teaching of modules within the Business School in the areas of auditing, taxation, financial reporting, management accounting and/or corporate finance (undergraduate/postgraduate/MBA/CPD)
•    Coach and support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor
•    Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with University standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
•    Contribute to curriculum development
•    As a senior colleague, make a positive citizenship contribution to the School.

 

Teaching & Research (T&R) Specific Responsibilities:


•    To provide academic leadership to colleagues, students and attract and supervise PGR students in a research-led university
•    To pursue external funding 
•    Contribute to the research profile of the Business School by publishing in high quality journals, demonstrating impact and winning external research funding
•    Conduct research that demonstrates international standards of excellence in terms of originality, significance and rigour in the disciplines of Accounting and Finance (linking to the Business School Vision and Strategy and interdisciplinary themes of Future of Work and Leading on Leadership) and ensure all our students benefit from studying in a research intensive, research excellent academic environment 
 

Teaching & Scholarship (T&S) Specific Responsibilities: 


•    To provide academic leadership to colleagues and students in a research-led university
•    Demonstrate impact by developing practice-based solutions to real-world problems, produce scholarly outputs and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work and the life of the School
•    Contribute to the scholarly and practice profile of the Business School by engaging in scholarly research and activities, impact, practice, CPD and external funding

Knowledge, Skills & Experience


•    Evidence of the ability to provide an outstanding educational experience, rooted in strong disciplinary (Accounting & Finance) knowledge that engages, challenges, and inspires our students 
•    Experience of leading and delivering holistic, integrated programme-level design of learning, teaching and assessment strategies, to deliver learning opportunities that engage, challenge and inspire our students 
•    Evidence of internationalising the curricula 
•    Make effective use of technology to enhance learning 
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills 
•    Excellent interpersonal skills 
•    Excellent organisational, time management and presentation skills 
•    Demonstration of successful team working and operating as an effective colleague 
•    Personal resilience in a context of change and fast paced environment 
•    Skills in organisation and leadership necessary for undertaking a management and leadership role in the School (e.g. in teaching and learning, research, impact or external engagement)

Qualifications


•    A good Honours degree in a relevant subject 
•    HE Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience) 
•    A profile with currency which meets external accreditation bodies criteria
