The School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (SNES) in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering at Newcastle University seeks to appoint an outstanding academic to the post of Professor of Marine Sciences.  This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding individual with proven academic leadership skills to take a lead in developing the future of marine science in Newcastle.

This key leadership role will involve close working with academic and professional support colleagues, including SNES and Faculty senior management teams, to establish Newcastle University as a leader in marine science research and education, consistent with our long-term strategic objectives.

We invite applications from candidates with a strong international reputation in any area of marine research that reflects a robust record of income from diverse funders, high quality publications, and demonstrable wider impact.  Applications from individuals with an interest in working with other disciplines embedded in the school (chemistry, biology, geoscience, agrifood and social science) or faculty (engineering, computer science, mathematics) are particularly encouraged.  You will be intimately familiar with the funding landscapes nationally and internationally and be actively engaged in networks of successful external collaborations with a range of academic, governmental and commercial partners.   Applicants will also be expected to provide leadership in helping to revise our marine science taught programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in order to enhance their appeal to both home and international students.
