Salary: £32,348 to £34,308 with progression to £42,155 per annum

The Role

 

The Institute of Electrification and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (IESAM) is a consortium which will develop a flexible, high-quality Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) training pipeline. The consortium, led by Newcastle University, consists of the North East Institute of Technology (a partnership of Further Education colleges, Newcastle University and industry led by New College Durham) and other universities and colleges in the region. 

 

As Outreach Manager, you will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of an outreach strategy for IESAM. You will be responsible for the coordination of knowledge and skills transfer between education providers to enable the core vision of the project. You will deliver outreach activities for the consortia, in partnership with UniConnect, which promote wider participation and inclusive access to PEMD vocational pathways.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the coordination of knowledge and skills transfer between education providers to enable the core vision of the project - a regional PEMD curricula, seamless pipeline of training provision from Level 3 to 7, and industry accessible content and delivery mode
  • Develop, deliver, monitor and evaluate an outreach strategy for IESAM, evaluating activity against targets in order to report on the impact of activity and make recommendations for improvement. Conduct data analysis to ensure a balanced portfolio of target schools, colleges and job centres
  • Develop and deliver outreach activities for the consortia, in partnership with UniConnect, which promote wider participation and inclusive access to PEMD vocational pathways, particularly to females and those in areas of deprivation
  • Develop an online toolkit for career advisors in schools, colleges and Job Centres to raise awareness of PEMD/Electrification employment opportunities, support the recruitment of future talent onto our regional, diverse course offer and focus on under-represented groups.
  • Create a sharing hub for access to industry approved PEMD course material
  • Monitoring and reporting on learner starts, progression and completion, as well as widening participation and EDI matters in line with the North East Institute of Technology’s EDI targets
  • Metrics at each stage will ensure that any issues that adversely impact under-represented groups are identified and addressed
  • Ensure that the outreach activity undertaken is evaluated and recorded in line with University requirements including developing evaluation methods and materials and recording event/participant data on the University’s HEAT database
  • Work in partnership with the Faculty Outreach Team and PEMD academic colleagues at Newcastle University to ensure that outreach activities are aligned and delivered in the most effective and appropriate way
  • Develop and sustain excellent working relationships with the national PEMD Skills Hub (based at Nottingham University) to strengthen the dissemination of IESAM's offer
  • Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required

 

The Person

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of developing strategies and of measuring their success against targets or KPIs
  • Demonstrable awareness and understanding of complexities of recruitment to STEM subjects nationally and knowledge of issues relating to aspiration-raising, widening participation and progression
  • Excellent project management skills, including, time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of staff and to work well within and across teams
  • Experience of developing and delivering effective customer- focused events and appropriate activities for a range of student age groups
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, in a range of styles appropriate to target audiences and medium
  • A track record of working effectively across a complex organisation
  • Commitment to leading a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Demonstrable knowledge of EDI practice and policies
  • Thorough knowledge and awareness of legislation on the Health and Safety of students and Child Protection issues

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification (preferably in a STEM subject) plus experience in a similar role, or significant vocational experience, demonstrating development through progressively more demanding, relevant roles
  • Full driving licence; willingness and availability to work unsocial hours when required (evenings and weekends); occasional travel in the UK and/or overseas sometimes requiring overnight stays
  • Receive Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service
