The Role


Careers Service Marketing and Events Placement Student – 12 month opportunity from August 2020.

Are you a penultimate year Newcastle University student looking for a year-long placement working in a marketing and events team?

The Careers Service at Newcastle University are looking for an articulate, enthusiastic, creative and self-motivated individual to join our team. You must be able to work both independently and as part of a team to effectively communicate with a wide range of students, graduates, academics and businesses. You’ll have brilliant attention to detail, a flare for writing engaging copy and will be a confident communicator.

You’ll also be excellent at planning and organising as you’ll be working on some of our most high profile events – from graduate recruitment fairs to the annual Pride of Newcastle University Awards. During your time with us you’ll gain a range of experience, including design of marketing materials, social media planning and market research.

Key Accountabilities


  1. Work within the Marketing and Events team to provide administrative and logistics support for a wide range of events and activities across the Careers Service 
  2. Contribute to student communications through a variety of channels, including creating content for e-newsletters and social media 
  3. Conduct market research projects
  4. Design and creation of marketing assets  
  5. Liaise with graduate recruiters to help promote vacancies and on-campus activities 
  6. Contribute new ideas for Careers Service activities 
  7. Undertake general tasks and duties as directed by your line manager


The Person


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong team player, with ability to work alone when necessary 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills e.g. proposals, reports and presentations.
  • Able to deal with a variety of people over the telephone in a professional manner. 
  • Use of office IT systems including Word and PowerPoint, databases and  web/internet 
  • Use of social media applications, in particular Facebook and Instagram
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills. 
  • Excellent time management. Use initiative where appropriate. 


  • Use of Adobe Creative Suite, with a particular focus on InDesign
  • Use of photography and video equipment
