Salary: £82,096.00 - £91,090.00 pro rata

The Role


You will be accountable to the Board of Medical Studies through the Office of the Director of Medical Studies/ Deputy Directors of Medical Studies (Assessment and Progression) to plan, organise and manage MOSLER examinations to ensure they remain fit for purpose, which will include process and resource planning. This is an appointment to the Assessment team so the role may change from leading MOSLERs as the MBBS assessment strategy evolves.

The post is part time at 10% FTE.

Key Accountabilities

 

You will be accountable to the Board of Medical Studies through the Office of the Director of Medical Studies/ Deputy Directors of Medical Studies (Assessment and Progression) to plan, organise and manage MOSLER examinations to ensure they remains fit for purpose, which will include process and resource planning. This is an appointment to the Assessment team so the role may change from leading MOSLERs as the MBBS assessment strategy evolves.  You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and improving the current MOSLER
  • Selecting items to populate the examination including resits
  • Running workshops to develop and quality assure new stations
  • Developing resources for training of examiners
  • Liaising with course leads and external examiners
  • Liaising with NUMed to ensure assessment content is appropriate for the Malaysian context
  • Participation as a member of examination boards
  • Quality assurance of the assessment including:    
    • Reviewing assessment performance to inform the exam boards
    • Reviewing the overall reliability of the assessment
  • Participation as a member of the assessment governance team and contributing to curriculum review


Support for Assessment Leads

You will undertake:

  • Staff development opportunities as provided by the School of Medical Education and Health Education England working across the North East
  • Support for staff development opportunities offered elsewhere e.g. ASME, EBMA
  • Administrative support as appropriate from the Medical Student Office
  • Annual appraisal (University PDR process), which complements the NHS appraisal, with the Sub-Dean for Assessment

Key Relationships

  • Liaison with the Board of Medical Studies in relation to the current course and future change or developments
  • Liaison with Year Leads, Course Directors and assessment Leads, colleagues in NHS partner Trusts and staff at NUMed, to ensure that assessment is being delivered consistently across the Regional Medical School including the branch campus at NUMed Malaysia

 

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • At least two years teaching/ assessment experience on an appropriate MBBS programme
  • Evidence of experience and training in relation to assessment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the MBBS curriculum
  • Knowledge of the subject areas delivered in Years 3,4 and 5
  • Knowledge of NUMed and how the relevant courses are delivered, and outcomes met

  • Demonstrable willingness and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a team

  • Enthusiasm for the task in hand

 

Qualifications

 

  • Be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register (any recognised speciality) or GP Register
  • Postgraduate qualification in medical education at or working towards Masters Level
