Salary: £35,845.00 - £44,045.00 Lecturer Grade F 

           £41,526.00 - £55,750.00 Lecturer Grade G

           £51,034.00 - £64,959.00 Senior Lecturer Grade H

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Engineering Schools in the UK where you will be expected to support and inspire the next generation of Newcastle University engineering graduates. 


Transport Engineering is a core strength at the school with expertise across many of its disciplines e.g. Mechanical, Marine, Electrical & Electronic, Civil. Based within the Mechanical Engineering & Marine Technology discipline and joining the Future Mobility Academic Group, but with an interdisciplinary ambition, you will be expected to contribute to the further development of our expertise in transport engineering through supporting existing research initiatives, developing new ones, and contributing to teaching on our UG and PG Mechanical Engineering and Engineering programmes, and relevant industry focussed CPD programmes.

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior lecturer in transport systems with a strong record on vehicle design and transmission systems with an emphasis on the electrification of propulsion systems and their mechanical engineering aspects.  Expertise in your research field should be matched by a strong research record, or potential to develop into a researcher of national/international quality, that builds on our strengths in Transport Systems in particular. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise bridges fundamental and applied aspects of engineering.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • In-depth subject knowledge/expertise in a relevant area  
  • Publications in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • Evidence of the ability to win funds to support research from major funding agencies
  • Leadership potential 
  • Ability to establish and lead a research team
  • Track record of successful project completion
  • Experience of teaching relevant subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students


  • A developing international reputation in the discipline 
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills 
  • Counselling skills and pastoral care where appropriate

  • Ability to communicate complex oral and written information clearly
  • Ability to develop and deliver innovative and effective teaching and learning materials
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills to balance the potentially conflicting demands of teaching and administration; and the ability to meet deadlines

  • A good degree and PhD in a relevant area


  • Academic teaching qualification or equivalent 
  • A relevant professional qualification 
  • A relevant Masters degree
