Salary: Lecturer: £35,845 - £49,553 per annum

            Senior Lecturer: £51,034 - £59,135 per annum

The Role


We invite applications from strong candidates, committed to collegiality, from all areas of economics. We are especially interested in candidates who could be embedded within our applied welfare economics research grouping. The group’s focus is on individual choice and behavioural change in the context of public goods. Particular interests include environment, health, transport and safety. The group benefits from a dedicated behavioural economics laboratory, has a long-standing international research reputation and a strong track record of policy impact in mortality and morbidity risk valuation.


For Senior Lecturer position you will hold a relevant PhD and will have an outstanding research record, as evidenced by publications in internationally excellent journals. For Lecturer position you will hold, or be close to obtaining, a relevant PhD and will be able to demonstrate a capacity to publish in journals of international standing. You will have: (i) A clear and viable strategy for sustained future research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications; and (ii) the ability to teach economics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  You will contribute to the research profile of the Subject Group by publishing in internationally recognised journals, demonstrating research impact, and securing external research funding. You will develop and deliver programmes in the Subject Group and deliver an outstanding teaching experience to our students.

Key Accountabilities


  • Contribute to the research profile of the Business School by publishing in high quality journals, demonstrating impact and winning external research funding
  • Conduct research that demonstrates international standards of excellence in terms of originality, significance and rigour in Economics and ensure all our students benefit from studying in a research-intensive academic environment
  • Demonstrate impact by developing research-based solutions to real-world problems and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work
  • To have a commitment to high quality teaching and learning and student support
  • Provide high quality teaching of modules within the Business School
  • Support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor
  • Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with University standards and utilise online and digitised curricula and education frameworks
  • Contribute to curriculum review and development
  • Contribute to the Business School’s Triple Accreditation and Professional Body Accreditations
  • Operate as an active citizen in the Economics and Business School community


In addition for Senior Lecturer level:

  • Attract, supervise and examine postgraduate research students
  • As a senior colleague, make a positive citizenship contribution to the Economics Group and the wider School
  • Contribute to the leadership of the Economics Group’s research strategy


The level of appointment will be determined by your ability to meet the requirements of the person specification and job description.


Person Specification (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills & Experience


  • Ability to publish in high quality journals
  • Ability to develop and secure research grants
  • Ability to undertake research with impact
  • Evidence of ability to provide an outstanding learning environment for students
  • Excellent organisational, time management and presentation skills (to be assessed at interview rather than shortlisting stage)
  • Experience of, or potential for, undertaking a management and leadership role
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and ethics


In addition for the Senior Lecturer level:

  • A sustained international research profile as evidenced by, for example, a track record of world-leading publications; securing external research funding; engaging with external stakeholders
  • Experience of supervising research students to completion




  • A completed PhD or near completion in Economics or related area
  • A good Honours degree in a relevant subject


In addition for the Senior Lecturer level:

  • HE Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • A completed PhD in Economics or related area
