Salary:

Grade F -  £35,845 - £40,322 per annum

Grade G - £41,526 - £49,553 per annum

Grade H - £51,034 - £59,135 per annum

The Role

Our research directly inspires our teaching in postgraduate degrees, professional courses for industry, and a software focussed undergraduate programme that delivers exceptionally strong outcomes for our students.     

 

The School is a lively, friendly community with research, innovation and teaching strengths across the spectrum of computing, including distributed systems, Internet of Things, resilient systems, data science, artificial intelligence, model-based and formal methods, bioinformatics and complex biosystems, human computer interaction and educational practice in computing.

 

The School is located in the Urban Sciences Building, completed in 2017 to provide state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities at the heart of the rapidly developing £350m Newcastle Helix site, an innovation hub actively delivering research to market. Alongside the School, Helix is home to the National Innovation Centres for Data and Ageing as well as national research hubs in urban systems, energy and infrastructure.  


You will be expected to undertake high quality research and education, securing funding, disseminating results through the highest quality publications, developing industry/academic collaborations, and engaging with our courses and students at all levels.  You should complement your research strengths with evidence of innovative and successful teaching related to video game engineering and associated underlying mathematical concepts with a focus on numerical methods for solving rigid and soft body simulations.

This position provides a significant opportunity for an inspirational Computer Scientist to develop their research while taking a central role in the delivery of teaching within a successful and supportive environment. This position requires close collaboration with colleagues (Academic, Professional Services and Technical) and students. This role will focus on:
•    Undertaking independent original research in video game technologies
•    Developing and supporting teaching activities in the School of Computing
•    Developing and delivering excellent student guidance and pastoral care
•    Promoting computing science through impact and engagement activities

 

Essential for Senior Lecturer
•    Leading research funding bids individually and as part of a team
•    Guiding and promoting the careers of colleagues


The Person (Essential)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

 

Essential
•    Developing effective teaching and learning materials
•    Teaching and assessment at university level
•    Academic guidance and pastoral care of students
•    Published research in well regarded journals and conferences
•    Deep knowledge of numerical methods for solving differential equations
•    Highly skilled in programming rigid and soft body simulations
•    Experience using toolchains (e.g., source versioning, continuous integration)

Senior Lecturer:
•    Track record of securing research funding
•    Leadership of academic colleagues

Desirable
•    Experience of engaging industry in developing taught courses
