Salary: £19,623 with progression to £21,686  per annum

The Role


Based in the School of Medical Education within the Faculty of Medical Sciences, you will provide administrative support to ensure the smooth and effective running of RoleplayNorth which is responsible for planning and developing workshop and seminar content, materials and a mode of delivery that is optimal to the recipient. RoleplayNorth itself is a team of role-players and facilitators (90+) who offer expertise for aspects of communication skills training.  RoleplayNorth runs workshops to enhance the communication skills of professionals within any health related arena.


You should have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills; be able to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail; be a team player; and possess the ability to use your own initiative and to prioritise your own workload. Flexibility, discretion, tact and diplomacy are also essential, as is a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

The role is full time, fixed term for 9 months.

Key Accountabilities



  • You will provide administrative support for the Co-ordinator and School Manager with particular relation to the co-ordination of the role-player register and providing costing information and advice to customers
  • You will be the first point of contact for all enquiries regarding the work of RoleplayNorth
  • You will provide estimates for work to be undertaken, for potential clients, so that an informed decision can be made regarding the booking of workshops. You will assign role-players to jobs according to required skills / abilities / characteristics so that the client receives role-player(s) to fulfil the role
  • You will organise the monthly payroll from the database, checking carefully all fees and expenses generated by the Facilitator and/or role-players and process claims for payment so that those involved in jobs are properly compensated
  • To arrange meetings for theRroleplayNorth Co-ordinator, for example meetings with potential clients, pre-event briefings with role-players or promotional events, to organise venues and confirm arrangements with those involved so that events as smoothly as possible
  • To confirm arrangements with role-players and clients to ensure that all those involved receive the required information in order to complete the job
  • To be responsible for the accurate and up to date information (databases and/or hard copy) on role-players, clients and workshops for the business so that information can be easily obtained as required
  • To obtain feedback using an appropriate format (either the completion of an evaluation form or verbal feedback) about the arrangements, instructions and the running of events, from clients and role-players, in order to provide the roleplaynorth Co-ordinator with necessary information to improve the service roleplaynorth offers
  • Where appropriate to act as secretary to designated meetings, including agenda preparation and circulation, minute taking and monitoring progress of actions

  • Working knowledge of relevant systems equipment, processes and procedures including standard software packages
  • Appreciation of the standards for the conduct and output of the role
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing
  • Good I.T. skills, i.e. good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages
  • Numeracy skills
  • Familiarity with work priorities and those of colleagues
  • Basic understanding of relevant policies and procedures, as they affect the role
  • Ability to apply relevant health and safety and other University policies and procedures

  • Grades A-C in English Language and Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent) or vocational qualifications, plus work experience in a relevant role; or Substantial relevant work experience in the unit or a comparable setting
