Salary: £25,941.00 - £27,511.00

The Role


As part of our expansion we are looking for Evidence Synthesis Analysts to join a team of analysts monitoring individual technologies and producing evidence briefings and dashboard outputs.


This is a national role and the post sits in our exciting new initiative, the National Institute for Health Research Innovation Observatory (NIHRIO) a £16M initiative, funded by the National Institute for Health Research. NIHRIO brings together, in one centre, data scientists, information specialists, evidence synthesis experts and software engineers to create a critical mass of expertise in observing and reporting on health innovation in the UK and beyond utilising next generational digital analytics.

Key Accountabilities


  • To contribute to the delivery of evidence briefing outputs for national stakeholders
  • Under direction, contribute to the setting up of experimental systems to explore novel methods of presenting and synthesising information
  • To contribute to the development and delivery of training and advice, liaising with other groups and organisations
  • Participate in the delivery of market analysis and pipeline reports to key national stakeholders under guidance of more senior staff
  • Managing own workload and prioritising work to ensure timely, accurate, search activities. Where necessary, to engage with managers to identify extra resources to manage peaks in demand
  • Carry out bespoke evidence synthesis projects within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard under guidance from more senior staff
  • Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the projects/team
  • If appropriate, contribute to the preparation of papers for publication, disseminate findings at conferences as required
  • Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in research methods and other transferable skills
  • To contribute to the wider activities of the Analyst Team at the NIHR IO
  • Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support the NIHR IO as required by the Director

  • An understanding of regulatory processes (medicine and medical devices), clinical trial design and/or innovation evaluation
  • Evidence of potential to write for peer reviewed publications and present findings at conferences
  • Evidence of skills in information specialist methodologies
  • Evidence of skills in using relevant software packages
  • Experience of undertaking literature searching and data monitoring
  • Experience using business intelligence (BI) tools (eg, Power BI), Advanced Excel for reporting and visualisation

  • A first degree in health services research, public health, information science, health technology assessment, biomedical sciences, pharmacology, biomedical engineering/medical biotechnology or other related subject
