The role

Based at Evince Technology, Durham you will lead a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project to develop a capability to model diamond based electronic devices based on Evince Technologies embedded field emission device architecture.

Candidates educated to Post-doctoral Degree level with relevant technological coverage/ experience in a related area of application together with knowledge of semiconductor physics and/or semiconductor device technologies are preferred.  Candidates with a Master’s Degree with relevant industrial experience will be considered.  You will need to be proficient in simulation and physical modelling of electron/ semiconductor devices and computational analytics with a demonstrated background of practical engineering design and development.

The KTP Associate will be an employee of Newcastle University but will spend most of their working time at the company’s premises in Sedgefield, Durham.  Although the contract is fixed-term for a duration of 2 years, more than 70% of KTP staff are made a permanent job offer by their KTP company.

Evince Technology is developing breakthrough electron devices using synthetic-diamond.  Using modern semiconductor manufacturing techniques, coupled with their proprietary Embedded Electron Emission technology, they make solid-state electron devices and sources at the microelectronic scale. These unite the best characteristics of valves with the efficiencies of modern semiconductors. This is a fixed term position for 2 years.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Onboarding to the project and familiarisation with the business context within which the KTP will deliver a new capability
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the functionality and software of principal physical models, familiarisation of previous modelling outcomes and methodology
  • Design and development of computational tools, implementation and evaluation of physical models
  • Transfer knowledge to Evince staff through user guides and staff training ensuring knowledge and expertise is fully embedded within Evince
  • Throughout the project present findings to stakeholders and prepare full documentation
  • Disseminate research via scientific publications, seminars and present at European conference

 

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of semi-conductor Physics and/or semi-conductor device technologies
  • Experience of Multiphysics simulation and modelling software such as COMSOL or ANSYS
  • Experience of using quantitative and qualitative research methods beyond academic studies
  • Experience of working in a fast paced research and development environment
  • Experience of working with data analytics in the context of simulation outputs and device operation, strong data analytic and computational skills
  • Ability to correlate modelling outputs with practical application data
  • Ability to prepare conference papers, journal articles and presentations

Qualifications

  •    PhD with relevant technological coverage or Master’s Degree with relevant industrial experience
