Salary: £31,406 - £33,309 with progression to £44,706 per annum

The Role


Newcastle University Business School is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Accreditation and Business Planning Manager to join our Business Planning and Governance Team. You will provide specialist advice in the management, monitoring, advising and reporting of International and Professional Accreditations in addition to ensuring the scoping, planning, management and delivery of a significant range of major projects which enhance the School’s accreditations. You will also develop and deliver the School’s business planning cycle. Following a recent Professional Services reorganisation, there has been significant additional staff resource invested in the School.


You will be responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining all management processes for co-ordinating the various accreditation activities in the School, including AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB International. You will manage the compilation of accreditation reports, highlight issues, make recommendations and monitor actions. You will also be responsible for reviewing and implementing a range of project plans for the preparation of reports and submissions in relation to accreditations.


You will possess a thorough knowledge of the practices, processes and procedures involved in university academic administration, including experience of effective implementation of policy and accreditation. You will have experience of planning and delivering complex projects, data management and target setting, and have demonstrable analytical and problem-solving capability. You will demonstrate an ability to think strategically and manage strategic planning processes. You will be a graduate (or equivalent with significant relevant experience in a relevant role or roles.

Key accountabilities


  • Working closely with the Director of Accreditation to develop, maintain and improve all management processes for the co-ordination of the various accreditations, charters and membership activities held by the School. Monitoring areas for development, actions and outputs from accreditation reports
  • Managing the compilation of the School’s self-evaluation accreditation reports, making recommendations for accreditations/re-accreditations as appropriate.  In accordance with accreditation requirements and procedures, acting as advisor to highlight issues and areas of concern to the Director of Accreditation and School Executive Board
  • Managing large volumes of complex data, including manipulating and building systems and models on the various sources of data needed for the accreditation processes. This will involve drawing data from various sources including the School, the Faculty, University and comparator institutions. whilst working closely with the Schools Data Analyst
  • Responsibility for maintaining and sharing current knowledge of the evolving accreditation criteria.  Contributing to current thinking and new developments within accrediting bodies, accreditation networks and peer institutions, both nationally and internationally
  • Working closely with the relevant Directors and professional colleagues, ensure the effective implementation of School level policy. Including in the areas of EDI, PRME, and Athena Swan
  • Responsible for identifying necessary amendments and updates to marketing information, including the School’s web site and brochures, in the areas of accreditations
  • To be an active and influential member of the Accreditation Committee, making appropriate recommendations and implementing proposals to improve the School’s accreditation position
  • Coordinate communications with staff, students, Advisory Boards and alumni to ensure the significance and importance of accreditations and the School’s current and planned performance is understood
  • Under the direction of the Head of Business Planning & Governance, lead on development of the School’s Business Planning cycle
  • To manage the School’s Accreditation Budget
  • To line manage the School’s Accreditation and Data Administrator ensuring that a co-ordinated and efficient support service is provided for accreditations and data
  • Travel in the UK and internationally, as required
  • To carry out other duties, as defined by line manager, which support the successful achievement of Business School vision, strategy and operations

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, processes and procedures involved in the administration of university academic work, including the experience of effective implementation of policy and accreditation
  • Proven ability to establish, review and monitor administrative systems, including those for tracking targets and managing performance feedback
  • Line management experience with demonstrable and proven ability to lead and develop teams and individual
  • Experience of both supporting and leading committees and meetings
  • Experience of working with and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Experience of data analysis, management, and target setting
  • Experience of planning and delivering complex projects, whilst managing conflicting priorities and working to appropriate deadlines
  • Good analytical and report writing skills
  • Excellent IT skills including experience of MS Office packages
